Why investors are shrugging off high valuations in stocks

U.S. stocks are trading at valuations that are viewed as stretched by many metrics, with some measures reminiscent of the periods before major market collapses. In response, a number of analysts are saying, “So what?”

Global stocks have rallied throughout 2017, with the S&P 500 SPX, -0.24% up more than 15% and other major markets seeing similar or larger gains. In fact, 2017 is set to be the only year in the history of the MSCI AC World Index where stocks post a positive return in every month of the year.
