Stock-market sheds early gains in final trading day before Christmas

U.S. stocks gave up early gains at the opening bell on Tuesday in what is expected to be a subdued trading session on Christmas Eve.

Equity markets will end Tuesday’s session early at 1 p.m. Eastern Time, while the bond market will finish an hour later at 2 p.m., with many global markets closed on Wednesday.

How are benchmarks performing?

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.05% was down 28 points, or 0.1%, to 28,523. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.00% was down 3 points, or less than 0.1%, to 3,221. The Nasdaq Composite index COMP, +0.03% fell 9 points, or 0.1%, to 8,937.
